Hysteria

I recently caught some episode of “Albums that Shook the World” or some such nonsense featuring Def Leppard’s Hysteria that chronicled the obsessive studio craft that created one of those ubiquitous 80s albums. There’s a deluxe edition that I’ve been listening to it all day and y’know what,,,this thing is Damn Good.

Here’s a favorite. Which kind of reminds me of having the flu in 8th grade [Def Leppard – “Hysteria”]. A trip down memory lane shall we…

Country Interlude

This song may be a bit out of character for me but I think it’s lovely: [Adrienne Young – “My Love Will Keep Forever”]

Midnight Juggernauts

Loving the song below. And love that there’s a strange Laura Branigan-ish shout out!

In other news, the Pussycat Dolls have released a version of Slumdog Millionaire’s “Jai Ho.” Hold on to your hats. And don’t say I didn’t warn you.

[Midnight Juggernauts – “Into The Galaxy”]

Jackie Wilson

Everyone happy with the Oscars? No big complaints here. Props to DustinLanceBlack and Sean Penn for great speeches, Hugh Jackman for pulling it all together….but can we please get through an awards show WITHOUT Beyonce. Plus, shouldnt she have to sing live at this point? I WISH i was more enamored with “Slumdog Millionaire” but it’s wins didn’t upset me either. All in all, a decent night.

On a completely different topic: I. Love. This. Song. [Jackie Wilson – “Lonely Teardrops”]

Further inspection found this version from “Shindig” with Billy Preston on organ. I want to learn the dance those girls are doing in the back1:

Colin Munroe

Totally into this guy. Check out the cover of Kanye’s “Flashing Lights”: http://www.myspace.com/colinmunroe

Amazon Goodies

Amazonmp3.com has lots of songs for free.

Click on the link below and you can pick and choose – and just download your favorites. (I recommend Sharon Jones, David Byrne’s Strange Overtones, Chromeo, The Streets, and The Daptones Records compilation)

PRIDE

Two songs. Both called “Pride.” Both awesome.

Rachid. A simple YouTube search for ‘Rachid Pride’ will get you the official video. But they won’t let me embed it. 😦 Here’s a live clip. Brooding/Prince-esque. His voice is off the chain):

Embedding fixed!

Syntax (A particularly grim “Nip/Tuck” episode tipped me off to this track. I think it accompanied the work of one of the show’s many serial killers. Thankfully, the youtube clip is innocuous nature shots. Stick with it, it builds and builds:

New Annie

New music from Annie Lennox. I couldn’t be happier. [Thanks for the tip-off Wendal]. “Shining Light” http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid3837974001/bctid9952086001

Drag Race

Seriously, this could be the best reality TV show ever.

Who will be the reigning drag diva? “Supermodel” RuPaul out-Tyras Tyra and is definitely the most interesting host of a show of this ilk. Plus the judge’s panel is surprisingly heavy hitting: Bob Mackie, Santino! And when things get serious, the ladies have to…”Lip Sync for Their Lives”…. It’s not to be missed. The show’s on Logo – or you can stream episodes at the link below:  http://www.logoonline.com/shows/dyn/rupauls_drag_race/videos.jhtml

Here’s a handy list of link highlights to get you started…ESPECIALLY if you don’t have LOGO.

episode 3 preview (Oprah Challenge)

Also, did anyone else notice that last week’s Flight of the Conchords episode was directed by none other than frenchie video auteur and Eternal Sunshine wiz, Michel Gondry? Props to the NewZealanders for getting all artsy on us….

I couldn’t agree more

I think I love this girl. [Ida Maria – “I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked”]
