as is often the way with the merry-go-round we call popular music (a circuitous route with a smaller and smaller radius every year, it seems), i first became aware of this classic via kristine w’s cover. which is quite good, because it’s kristine w. but when you find out something you thought was totally new is, in fact, a re-tread, it kinda takes the piss out. now she is covering *big love*, the pete heller mega-floor classic from the late 90s? early 00s? which just reminds me that it’s a lot harder to write a good song or a good book than it is to sing it or direct it. once some band covered *there she goes* by the la’s, a distinct memory of mine from high school, i knew there was no turning back. old.
Kristine loves to do that, doesn’t she? I ADORE Big Love but other than giving the writers some additional royalty payments i’d prefer we just had the awesomeness of the original.
oh i love this song….brings me back to the days of bleached hair and lip liner…of fake IDs and/or redrawing stamps on our wrists to get into neighbors….of driving around volunteer park in cody’s car with this song blaring at 3 in the morning….ahhh youth 😉
