Catch Debby’s Fire

Bound to make you all kindsa happy.
I can’t stop listening to this!

John LePage f/Debby Holiday and LFB – “Catch A Fire”

The Seven Bells Do Siouxsie’s Kiss Them For Me

http://snd.sc/IChMzW

The second I heard about this I knew it was a good idea.

School of Seven Bells released this as a limited edition vinyl single in honor of Record Store Day but you can now go claim it for your own iTunes and Amazon.

Love the vocals. A great combo!

sheena + madonna

One of Sheena’s most underappreciated (Prince-penned) tracks gets a mash-up with Madonna’s ho-hum 2010 single, and it all works surprisingly well.

Sheena Easton vs Madonna – Celebration/101 Mashup

If you’d like to hear a more suitably Prince-y version, here’s a remix he did of the original production.
“101” Uptown Version

Delayed Monarchy apprecation

Sometimes you write notes to yourself and don’t discover them until your cleaning out your inbox….over a year later.

Here’s such an example. Love this remix and the surprisingly big piano that comes in around the 4 minute mark.

Monarchy – “Love Get Out Of My Way” Tim Goldsworthy Remix

And then there’s this remix of a later track which sounds positively Maroon 5-ish.
“You Don’t Want To Dance With Me” Vivien Remix

And this single as well. A little “When Love Takes Over”…
“Maybe I’m Crazy”

Come Along with Vicci Martinez and Tityo

The finalist representing team Ceee-Lo in last year’s The Voice is out with a new single that’s a cover of an old favorite of mine and is actually a really smart choice for her.

“Come Along” was originally performed by Titiyo who is actually Neneh Cherry’s sister and formerly (I think) a big star in Sweden. This song came out in the fall of 2002 but never really took off here.

 “Come Along”

I was totally predisposed to like all things Titiyo because I was absolutely OBSESSED with this track  from Summer ’91 (I think?).

“My Body Says Yes”

Anyway, here’s the Vicci Martinez version (who I also need to support cuz we were both born in Tacoma!) which totally works and hews pretty darn close to the original.

Justice

Justice-cover

Their last record was positively arena rock ready but you can REALLY do the D.A.N.C.E. with this rockarrific, rifftastic stroll through every guitar lick known to man via our favorite gallic DJs….Justice.

Curbing Tiger Woods’ Heart

Oh I am just loving this…and it’s perfect for a spring Monday.

Has a vaguely early 80s Evelyn Champagne King “I’m In Love” sorta thing going on that I’m digging as well. I’ll meet you by the pool!

Tiger & Woods featuring ‘EM – “Curb My Heart”

Grimes Heads Into Oblivion

Ghostly early 80s pink haired afficianado heads to the Motorcross!
This is my first taste of the much buzzed about Grimes. Love the video.

 Grimes – “Oblivion”

why wouldn’t you call this song Shake Your Body Down? No wonder I could never find it

I had no idea this was a stock aitken waterman production….or that the group was made up of a couple of moonlighting British radio personalities. Or that it was actually a cover of of song from a NYC-based disco band, Odyssey, that hit #1 in the UK in 1980.
This was the JAM back when I was a schooler visiting dance clubs I really had not business being at….and I LOVED this track. And was never able to track it down.  And yeah, so maybe I heard this out this weekend and maybe Youtube just gave me the answer to a question I hadn’t asked in 20 years….

Pat & Mick – “Use It Up, Wear It Out”

And here’s the original in case you’re interested. Who knew?
