Some genius from Perfume Genius
So this guy’s doing things backwards and is somehow all the better for it. After moving from New York to Everett, Washington to live with his Mom in 2008 (usually we do that in the reverse, kiddo) he’s been composing….but this is the first i’ve heard of “Perfume Genius” (nee Mike Hadreas). His first album appeared on Matador in 2010 and his new album, Put Your Back N 2 It, arrived earlier this year.
It’s startlingly vulnerable and packs quite a punch in 2 short minutes. I’m on the fence on the video…decide for yourself. Perfume Genius – “Hood”Another Diva Down
Conga Squad – “I Lost It”
Brainstorm – “Lovin’ Is Really My Game”
Donna Summer – “Heaven Knows”
Madonna B-side
Pulled from Madonna’s self-titled debut album, reportedly because producer Reggie Lucas couldn’t stand it….it would later show up as the B-side to “True Blue.”
I think it’s frickin’ fantastic. Madonna – “Ain’t No Big Deal”Hot Chip Returns
These guys can really do no wrong and I’m thrilled that we’ll have their new album on June 12.
Starts at cheap, then builds into a late night disco doom.
Green Label takes the Penguins to Hollywood
Another stellar track from the always good Green Label Sound. Give it a go…

Donna, Tyson Live on the Dancefloor
“Last Dance” may be more obvious but this is my preferred send off. Donna Summer – “Heaven Knows”
The title of this 2012 track may be in bad taste in light of Ms. Summer’s recent passing…but it’s Giorgio Moroder/Sylvester beat has Donna written all over it. Tyson – “Die On The Dancefloor”
Sophie Gets Naughty
The Murder on the dancefloor queen really let’s us know how she feels with this rather direct plea courtesy of French DJ/Producer, Bob Sinclar.
Bob Sinclar f/Sophie-Ellis Bextor – “Fuck With You”Let’s Have A Kiki
Surpisingly addictive.
Like being dropped in a Deeeee-Lite k-hole. Scissor Sisters – “Let’s Have A Kiki”Rebecca Ferguson
Just stumbling across this so not sure if it’s going to hold after repeated listens but this UK X-Factor runner-up has some rich pipes.
Rebecca Ferguson – “Too Good To Lose”
