Spotify Playlist – AUTUMN RISES

So we’re at the beginning of fall which seems a great time for a new playlist.

Lots of good stuff on here. Loving Yeasayer’s “Blue Paper.”I think the combo of Sebastien and Hot Chocolate is oddly perfect. Digging a new remix of Ellie Goulding’s fab “Anything Could Happen,” along with another Imagine Dragons remix. Plus goodies from Miguel, Charli XCX, The Glass, and older favorites from Duran Duran and Olive.  And there’s Juliette Lewis too!

Check it out and subscribe if you’re into it:

Gotye at Radio City

Manhattan-20120925-00200

Caught Gotye at Radio City last night….He’s a somewhat insular performer so they wisely amped up the visuals with huge video projections playing behind the band during the whole show. Percussive and sample-heavy, the similarities to Peter Gabriel were obvious and with the trippy visuals I couldn’t help but think of him as a slightly MOR version of Sufjan Stevens.

He played the song below, which I really loved but was unfamilar with. Apparently it’s a bonus track on the iTunes version of Making Mirrors…but not in the US. 😦

A Peek Into Prince’s Mind

Prince-61-465x344

I thought this interview with Prince from the Chicago Tribune (in advance of his 3 tour dates) was really interesting. Check it out here.

The reviewer caught the show last night and largely panned it, mostly because Prince dissappeared for an hour after the last song before returning for the encore (Oh, Prince….). Never a fan of reporters or the media, I can only imagine how that’s going over with his Purple-ness.

Incidentally, he released a new song “R + R Affair” which is a very retro affair (I sense a nod to “Raspberry Beret”) but more snoozy than scintillating.

Oh Prince, you can still do no wrong in my book. I’d post a video from Youtube…But for the most part, they’ve all been taken down of course. 🙂

SSION at Santos

Ssionfinale

An epic show, as expected. Delightfully delirious crowd.

I really love this band — They make perfectly crafted pop songs but with this disconcerting layer of grime on top. And there’s something a little punk and intimidating about the lead singer. It’s all a really fascinating combo. And for the finale, Cody crowd surfed into the audience as audience members lept upon stage to have their moment in the sun.

I would LOVE to know what the song was that they played about halfway through the set…… very Marilyn Manson, heavy guitars, and had the “C U In Hell” line….if anyone knows…lemme know!

Here’s another track from their new album that, incidentally, is also featured on HUNTING SEASON.

 Enjoy!

Yeah, Spotify!

And here’s a new mix of September-ish dance tunes called CITY BOY/HIPSTER GIRL:

I have some older playlists up there, that I forgot I ever posted. So check ’em out if you get the chance.

Muse Madness

Muse is often accused of bombast but I’m really into this bass woofy slow jam that’s all tight reverb and soaring U2 melodies.

 Muse – “Madness”

Just realized I posted this already! Oh well, reminders can’t be bad….

Ellie makes it happen

I wasn’t really that taken with Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” (no worries, after nearly a half a year on the chart, it finally hit Top 5 in the states, at which point I realized resistance was futile).

This new track from her follow-up album though I can whole-heartedly endorse. A marching beat builds to an enormous chorus.

Hunting Season series

For many this will be more of a wrap-up of the last week’s activities but the web series which I music supervised – HUNTING SEASON – premiered on logotv.com last week and I couldn’t be more excited.

You can see the full video content on the Hunting Season website and be sure to visit the the MUSIC page to listen/buy the tracks featured in the soundtrack. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see me wax poetic about the process!

Figured I may as well do a bit of a wrap-up of some of the tracks we’ve been highlighting on FB, twitter, etc.

Lindbergh Palace—Days Don’t Fade

HUNTING SEASON kicks off with “Days Don’t Fade,” a dynamite sun-kissed track from Brooklyn-based Lindbergh Palace. Pop perfection that sounds like endless possibility. .

Breanne Duren—Goldmine

Impossibly catchy and endearingly earnest, “Gold Mine” is perky, flirty, finger-snapping goodness. The perfect amount of vocal sass from Breanne Duren gives the song its sultry edge. Love the video too!

Allen Stone—Say So

Fellow Seattle-ite expectations and brings a laid-back freshness to his confident spin on classic soul.

Meital Dohan—Yummy Boyz

Can’t help but love this hook-y little piece of ridiculousness— a steamy ode to sexy boys.

SSION—Earthquake

CrazySexyandCoolasHell,“Earthquake” is a rafter-shaking track from soundtrack MVP, Ssion. The totally out-there head scratcher of a video is further proof of their slack-jaw inducing awesomeness.

Narcisse f/AVAN LAVA—Moonsex Cassette

Sparkly and otherworldy, “Moonsex Cassette” is an intoxicatingly hypnotic  track from Fischerspooner cohorts Narcisse, with an assist from one of our favorite new bands, AVAN LAVA.

More wrap-ups to come later but this should get you started if you haven’t already.
